MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a modality which utilizes a strong magnetic field and radio frequencies to produce images that radiologists use to diagnose various diseases and injuries. MRI uses no radiation, however there are medical conditions which are contraindicated for this exam. Your technologist will ask you pertinent medical history questions to determine if you are a candidate for this examination. Your exam will take approximately 20-45 minutes in length. During your examination there may be the need for an intravenous contrast injection. This will also be discussed by your technologist. During the MRI procedure the scanner makes many different noises similar to “knocking” noises. You will be provided with earplugs and/or headphones for your comfort. Please feel free to bring your favorite music CD for your enjoyment during the scan. And lastly, dress in loose fitting metal-free attire.
