PREPARING FOR YOUR PROCEDURE

Your physician will discuss your procedure with you during your office visit. Your surgeon's office will contact our facility to schedule your procedure. Please be sure to tell your doctor about any existing medical conditions and any medication you are currently taking.

After your surgery is scheduled you will receive a phone call from a member of our nursing staff to obtain a basic health history and review your preoperative instructions. If you have had preoperative tests, recent testing at a hospital/emergency room, or seend your primary care physician for a history and physical, please ask your physician to fax the reports to the center.

If you have had any preoperative tests or a history and physical performed within 30 days prior to surgery, please ask your physician to fax or send the reports to us (Attn: Pre-Op Call Nurse) prior to the date of your surgery. Our fax number is: 513-591-6216.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RULES

  • Make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home after surgery. We ask that the driver remain in the center until you are discharged.
  • Do not eat or drink anything aftger midnight the night before surgery unless your doctor or anesthesiologist instructs otherwise. This includes foods, liquids, water, candy, gum and breath mints.
  • Do not smoke or use any tobacco products after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before or after your surgery.
  • Follow your physician's instructions regarding the cleansing routine for examination of your colon (large bowel) Endo Procedures
  • You may brush your teeth or rinse your mouth the day of surgery, provided nothing is swallowed.
  • Medications will be reviewed by the pre-op nurse and instructions will be given prior to your procedure.
  • Children must not be left unattended in the waiting room.

If you do not follow these guidelines, your procedure may need to be delayed or canceled.

DAY OF SURGERY

If you are unable to keep your appointment or you are delayed, please contact the Center immediately at 513-591-6200.

Do not wear any jewelry, body piercing or bring valuable with you the day of your procedure.

You will need to bring your driver's license/photo ID, health insurance cards or forms with you. Depending on your insurance you may also be asked to bring your co-pay, coinsurance or deductible.

Choose low heeled shoes and looose comfortable clothing which is easy to put on, take off and can be easily folded. Avoid garments that pull over your head. Sleeves and pant legs should be loose enough to fit over bandages if necessary.

Remove all make up and your contact lenses if you wear them.

If applicable, bring the following items with you: a protective case for contact lenses or eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aides, crutches or walker (ask your doctor if you will need).

Please review the Patient's Rights and Responsibilities which are located at the Reception and Registration desks. During your pre-op interview, you will be instructed on what time to arrive at the Center. Check in at the front desk and wait to be registered. A nurse will escort you to the pre-op area where your temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure will be taken. You will be asked to change into a gown provided by the Center. Following the procedure, you will be moved to a recovery area where you will be offered something to eat and drink.

You may be surprised at how quickly you feel ready to leave!
